Creating ice blue-Ornament Thursday

It’s Ornament Thursday again!  This weeks theme is Celeste ice/light blue.

A while ago Bullseye glass company came out with a limited color called glacier.  It was a mix of clear and light blue that was one of the prettiest blues I’d ever had the pleasure to use.  I just loved that color.  I used it all and searched around for more in my stash and pouted heavily when I ran out.  You see, it was a special production color that they don’t make anymore.  I tried to con some of my girlfriends into letting me buy the few rods I knew they had, but no such luck.  They didn’t love me enough.

I guess I could have put a call out to the lampwork community and offered to buy any loose rods various lampworkers had lying about, but I somehow felt bad asking people to part with this lovely color.  So I decided to make my own.  It isn’t exactly the same, but I still love it.  I get this color by mixing a few regular colors together.  I mix powder blue and a special blend of clear and white mixed together.  I also sometimes go wild and mix robin blue with white and clear.  Just call me crazy.  I actually like to mix glass.  I just take the rods and melt sections together and mix them up right there at the torch.  It isn’t hard, just a little more time consuming.
